“O Self effulgent light that has given birth to the luminous planes of consciousness, who is worthy of worship and appears through the spiritual lens of the sun, illumine our intellect”
-Gayatri Mantra
Aratii karu sadguru kii karu
sadguru ki pyare guruvara ki
Aaratii karu guruvara kii

“Let me wave lights to the true guru.
Hail divine love, pure, indestructible, dwelling within us in the form of knowledge,
illuminating every step like the rays of the sun”

-Arati Puja Mantra

Light is returning even though this is the darkest hour
Noone can hold back the Dawn
Let’s keep it burning let’s keep the light of hope alive
Make safe our journey through the storm

-song by Charlie Murphy

Solstice is upon us and a day of change is here…

Winter Solstice is the shortest day and the longest night of the year and in this night, darkness triumphs and then gives way to the light.  The Wheel of the year turns and as we sit in the stillness of the dark night, facing ourselves courageously, we have another opportunity to release attachments to old patterns and stories that are keeping us “in the dark”.  We can honor the important process of letting die that which no longer serves.  This is SO uncomfortable, but in the way of great wisdom, this composting process creates the exact initiation that we need to turn the wheel and welcome the new sun and the creative light of intelligence that exists in all things and in all beings.

Today I will gather on the beach around a fire and jump into the freezing cold ocean to mark this passage.  Honoring the cycles of nature and my own part in the family of things.  I will release my own out worn patterns and I will call to the arising of my own true nature.  May the future, whatever it holds, bring us closer to the illumination of our own beauty, grace and compassionate intelligence!
